PALM BEACH COUNTY UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DROPS TO 3.7 PERCENT FROM 4.3 PERCENT YEAR AGO; TRENDS BETTER THAN STATE AND NATION FOR 12+ CONSECUTIVE MONTHS

West Palm Beach, Fla. (March 23, 2018) – Palm Beach County’s unemployment rate for February dropped to 3.7 percent from 4.3 percent a year ago and below January’s 4.0 percent. The county’s rate was lower than the state’s 3.8 percent and the nation’s 4.4 percent rates (all numbers not seasonally adjusted), according to reports released today from CareerSource Palm Beach County and the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. Palm Beach County’s unemployment rate has stayed below the state rate for the past 12 consecutive months and below the national rate for 13 consecutive months.

Her husband stood outside the classroom door with a dozen roses, alongside the Glades Central Community High School administrative staff, waiting for just the right moment to walk in. And then, on cue, the door to Gwen Asia-Holley’s room was opened, and she was announced as this week’s #ThankATeacherPBC teacher of the week. She has been described as “dedicated to her career and treats her students as if they were one of her own.” This personal dedication is exactly why Mrs. Asia-Holley was nominated for the award by one of her students.

BDB AND SCHOOL DISTRICT HOST 3RD ANNUAL CAREER SHOWCASE FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

The BDB worked with the School District and CareerSource Palm Beach County to bring together high schools and local companies so that students could learn about career paths and the possibilities that are open to them as the county continues to attract more employers. Students enjoyed interaction with employers and workers in the growing sectors of Life Sciences, Aerospace/Aviation/Engineering, Business Financial Services, and Manufacturing. Other industries represented were Construction/Trades, Real Estate, Hospitality, Tourism, Public Safety, Healthcare, Entrepreneurship, Education, Government, and Exercise Science.
