#THANKATEACHERPBC: GLADES CENTRAL HS TEACHER NAMED PBCSD’S TEACHER OF THE WEEK

Her husband stood outside the classroom door with a dozen roses, alongside the Glades Central Community High School administrative staff, waiting for just the right moment to walk in. And then, on cue, the door to Gwen Asia-Holley’s room was opened, and she was announced as this week’s #ThankATeacherPBC teacher of the week. She has been described as “dedicated to her career and treats her students as if they were one of her own.” This personal dedication is exactly why Mrs. Asia-Holley was nominated for the award by one of her students.

“I have never gone to her and had her tell me she could not help,” said Jasmine Lumpkins, the student in her class that made the nomination. “I look up to her as if she was my mom because she gets the job done and does what a mother should do. A teacher should not only be someone who develops your education, but also be the one who makes sure you make better decisions.”

As the District’s Teacher of the Week, Mrs. Asia-Holley received a dozen donuts, balloons, flowers and a $25 gift card donated by ValuTeachers. As a #ThankATeacherPBC Teacher of the Week award winner, she’ll also be nominated for National Life Group’s LifeChanger of the Year award, which is given annually to teachers and other School District personnel who make a significant difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence, and leadership.
