Honda Classic Cares provides a huge boost to the Glades Initiative

Meanwhile our *local* PGA Tour stop is continuing to do so much good in our community …granting over 205-thousand dollars to The Glades Initiative’s food program ….who’ve provided food to 4-times more people since the Coronavirus hit.

Honda Classic Cares Week has already started to make a huge difference in Belle Glade. The Honda Classic has awarded a grant of $205,077 to The Glades Initiative, helping the organization to manage its growing needs, including a food program that includes operating a food bank. They typically provide food to an average of 5,000 individuals per month to members of the community, but those needs have expanded to four times as much because of the pandemic.

“Last week we served about 250 families, (through) the food line pick up we have on Wednesdays, and also we do deliveries to seniors who choose to stay at home. ” says Karis Engel, the President and CEO of the Glades Initiative, who is so thankful for the Honda Classic Cares grant. “We were already helping people with online services to basic safety net services like food stamps, Medicaid, Medicare, and child heath insurance.”

The Honda Classic awarded a record-shattering $5.35 million to 103 South Florida charities.
