BDB INTERN SERIES: Young Professionals Give Advice to Interns From Across the Nation

July 16, 2019, WEST PALM BEACH, FLA –  The BDB brought together summer interns from across the nation to show them why Palm Beach County is the perfect place to start a career and enter the workforce. Over 45 interns from over 30 different BDB member companies participated in a panel presentation at Banko Cantina yesterday. The panelists included four young, successful leaders in the workforce from diverse industries, moderated by a millennial from the BDB. Douglas Whipps of  Daszkal Bolton shared that he started out as an intern at the company he’s currently employed at and worked his way up at the accounting firm. Javier and Paula Cue of Pratt & Whitney talked about the positive work-life balance in Palm Beach County as a married couple living here and working in the Aviation/Aerospace/Engineering industry. Diana Ngyuyen of Florida Power & Light talked about how there’s so many different job opportunities and departments at Florida Power & Light, highlighting that it’s not just electricity jobs. For example, there’s marketing, finance, law, infotech, etc.

NEW PARTNERSHIP TO BOOST MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLA – Today, the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County (BDB) and the South Florida Manufacturing Association (SFMA) announced a new partnership to foster the growth of the manufacturing industry in Palm Beach County. The two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the BDB Board of Directors meeting, in collaboration with representatives from SFMA’s board members, hosted at Palm Beach Atlantic University.

AN UPDATE ON THE GLADES REGION

Over the past few years, the Glades Region of Palm Beach County, including Belle Glade, Pahokee, and South Bay, has attracted nearly 400 jobs to the area as a result from the Business Development Board’s economic development efforts, in partnership with LORE and Palm Beach County. From manufacturing to technology, it’s been a diverse group of industries recruited to the area. These efforts have not only brought new opportunities to local residents, but have made unique connections throughout the community.

BDB GIVES OVERVIEW OF PALM BEACH COUNTY TO INTERNS FROM ACROSS THE NATION

Today, summer interns from across the Nation learned about Palm Beach County’s economy in the Business Development Board’s boardroom. The first-of-its-kind “BDB Lunch and Learn Intern Series” invited summer interns from BDB member organizations to gain a fresh perspective on the area’s business climate. The event included interns from companies such as BDO, Belcan, Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches, Colliers International, Garcia Stromberg, Greenberg Traurig, HBK CPAs & Consultants, Holland & Knight, Kimley-Horn, NAI Merin Hunter Codman, Oxbow Carbon, Palm Beach County, SBA Communications, Sharp Communications, Verdex Construction, and Wells Fargo.

MCNEAL, JOYNER TO LEAD BELLE GLADE AND LOX CAMPUSES

Palm Beach State College has hired new executive deans for its Belle Glade and Loxahatchee Groves campuses.

LaTanya McNeal will serve in the position on the Belle Glade campus and Stephen Joyner at Loxahatchee Groves. Since 2015, Ms. McNeal has served as the assistant dean of student services at the Belle Glade campus. Mr. Joyner was a higher education enrollment consultant and dean of student services at Miami Dade College.
Each will oversee the student services of their campuses, and will work to build partnerships and relationships with local leaders. They replace Maria Vallejo, who retired as vice president of growth and expansion and provost at both locations. ¦
