RESIDENTS ANNOUNCE $1M GRANT FOR BOYS & GIRLS CLUB BUILDING

Town Council President Danielle Moore and former Mayor Lesly Smith announced a $1 million challenge grant for the new Smith & Moore Family Teen Center in Belle Glade, adding to the $1 million they donated four years ago to begin the campaign for the new center.

Moore’s and Smith’s $1 million grant will match dollar-for-dollar all donations to keep the facility — which will be part of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County — running properly, according to a press release.

“Through the kindness and generosity of many, we are building a facility that will allow so many young people to experience new beginnings and a future that has no boundaries,” said Moore, who is also the chairman of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County Board.

Part-time residents Mike and Julie Connors also donated a $1 million challenge grant, according to the release.

With the donations, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County has reached its initial $6 million goal for the Smith & Moore Family Teen Center and will soon begin construction, according to the release.

The building will be two stories and 13,000 square feet, according to the release.

“So many families will be positively impacted in the Belle Glade area through our efforts and we are proud to be a part of it,” Smith said.

The Boys & Girls Club is hoping to raise another $4 million for the project.

“Our hope is that our supporters will continue giving to help ensure that the doors of the club will never close,” Moore said.
